Six New CLD Designations Earned

The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) is thrilled to announce a new cohort of individuals who have earned the prestigious Certified Lighting Designer (CLD) designation in 2023. These six lighting professionals, hailing from diverse backgrounds and locations, have demonstrated exceptional skill, knowledge, and commitment to the field, and their achievement marks a significant milestone in their careers.

The certification process, governed by the Certified Lighting Design Commission, assesses one’s ability to operate as a lead architectural lighting designer professionally and proficiently by considering a person’s imaginative, technical, and professional responsibility skills.

The newest Certified Lighting Designers are:

  • Amer Alchama, CLD, of Los Angeles, California, USA
  • Angelica Santana, IALD, CLD, of Alexandria, Virginia, USA
  • Huong Ly Duong, CLD, of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
  • Lena Kang, IALD, CLD, of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
  • Margareth Sunjoto, CLD, of Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia
  • Michelle Johnson, Assoc. IALD, CLD, of Columbus, Ohio, USA

As the first evidence-based certification program in architectural lighting design in the world, obtaining the Certified Lighting Designer (CLD) title denotes that these individuals have proven track records of design excellence and have successfully validated their skills through a rigorous assessment process that defines high standards of professional practice.

"We are incredibly proud of this year's CLD recipients," said David Becker, Chair of the Certified Lighting Design Commission. "Recognized by this global benchmark of performance, we have no doubt that they will continue to make significant contributions to the field, elevating the quality and impact of lighting in spaces of all types."

The IALD congratulates the 2023 CLD recipients and welcomes them to this esteemed community of lighting professionals. Their commitment to excellence sets a high bar for the industry and paves the way for a brighter future for lighting design.
